Certification Process

Step 1

Optional Completion of the Prep Course

The online course has 150 hours of content, including explanation videos, practice exams, and original content developed by our team of experts.

Step 2

Step Up & Take the Exam

The proctored exam has 70 multiple-choice questions, taken online or in-person. Participants get 1.5 hours and need a 70% score to certify. Up to three attempts are allowed, with accommodations available.

Step 3

Keep Your Certification
Active

Certification is valid for 24 months; recertification is accomplished by completing recurrent training.

What You’ll Learn in the Prep Course

The preparatory course consists of five modules:

Module 1: Covers the theoretical foundations of UAS maintenance, including regulatory compliance and the importance of accurate documentation for maintenance activities.

Module 2: Focuses on essential tools, equipment, and safety protocols for shop and flight line environments.

Module 3: Explores UAS electrical systems, software, and information technology, emphasizing cybersecurity and system functionality.

Module 4: Addresses component wear, stress, corrosion, and the importance of inspections and preventative maintenance.

Module 5: Teaches diagnostics, troubleshooting techniques, and minor repairs, with a focus on maintenance tracking and quality assurance practices.

  • The course materials are provided online via USI’s Learning Management System.
  • Instructor sessions are delivered using Microsoft Teams.
